What's a "Customer?"

All input is welcome:  what is a "customer?"   Dictionary pretty much describes it as a "buyer" or "purchaser" and nothing more.  Is some amount of respect, perhaps intellectual integrity, manners, common sense, and even humor or humility expected?  On the "customer's" part, not just the seller's part?  Today we have all sorts of  "customers" -- including those that assume the worst, start from overly-expectant places, or even are just downright jerks.  Are they still worthy of being one's customer?  An interesting dilemma for business today in this era of  "gotta have every buyer we can."

Seems like loyalty would indeed define a true customer, certainly anyone coming with the positive attributes listed above, but those who approach the seller with an attitude of "gimme no matter what?"

Again, all input welcome!
